Liz O’Riordan – Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust

The Complete Guide to BREAST CANCER and Making Evidence Accessible (Patient Stream)
Tuesday July 16th – 16:00

Liz O’Riordan is a Consultant Oncoplastic Surgeon at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust. She trained at the University of Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff, and has a doctorate in the molecular biology of cancer.

In 2015, at the age of 40, Liz was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer, which is somewhat ironic as she is a breast cancer surgeon. Within a week she started chemotherapy, followed by a mastectomy and reconstruction, and radiotherapy. She started blogging about her experiences as a doctor and a patient (liz.oriordan.co.uk), and this led to her talking all over the world, including a TEDx Stuttgart talk – ‘Jar of Joy’, about her experiences and how to improve the quality of patient care. She was nominated for a ‘Woman of the Year’ award in 2016, and has just finishing writing ‘The Complete Guide to Breast Cancer’ with Prof Trish Greenhalgh, due out in September 2018. She has just returned to work, and is passionate about listening to the patient voice to improve patient care.
