Rachel graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1996 and worked in mixed, dairy and small animal general practice (including a bit of time in Australia) for 6 years.

She was the Fort Dodge Feline Fellow at the Feline Centre at the University of Bristol from 2002-2005 before undertaking a PhD (Epidemiology of feline injection site sarcomas) at the Royal Veterinary College/Animal Health Trust.

Rachel was the Founding Director of the Centre for Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine and Clinical Associate Professor in Feline Medicine at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, Nottingham from 2009-20018.

She holds the RCVS diploma in feline medicine and an MSc in Evidence-based Healthcare from the University of Oxford. She is a recognised RCVS specialist in feline medicine, a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Authority and an internationally recognised leader in Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine. Rachel is also the inaugural chair of the Association of Charity Vets, the Editor-in-Chief of the BSAVA Manual of Shelter Medicine (to be published 2018) and co-founder of the Vets in the Community clinic in Nottingham.

Rachel is passionate about old cats, shelter medicine and about establishing practical ways of enabling decision makers to use Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine to improve care.
